Angela,
Thanks for your comments and your view on the Shadow Effect. I enjoyed Williamson's part about living in the light as well. Chopra's section seemed a little bit confusing to me as well, more academic in reading. My view is that we simply need to face our shadow (we're as sick as our secrets) and not be bound or victimized by them. We need to accept where we've been if we are to move on and know where we want to go. It's powerful to realize we're not defined by our past or dark side, that we're human and we can be whole even with things we aren't proud of.

I'm reminded of a short passage from Guy Finley's book, <a href="http://www.spiritualzen.net/2010/09/how-to-be-fearless-harnessing-the-courage-to-be-free/" rel="nofollow">The Courage to Be Free</a>:
"Your original fearless Self, can no more be made captive of some unwanted situation-inward or outward-than sunlight can be made to stand in its own shadow." Finding our original fearless self means accepting who we are, embracing it, and knowing we have intrinsic goodness and freedom not bound by our past or shadows.

Hi - I have been listening to The Shadow Effect audiobook (6 CDs) in the car during my commute to work. It's interesting how the authors read their parts and it becomes very apparent that they are three separate teachers with three very different angles. I was a bit confused about Chopra's view that we should embrace the shadow to make ourselves whole, but Williamson was saying that we should in fact try to rise above our shadow - to live in the light. Not sure if we are supposed to ignore our shadow and move on, or embrace it and use it. I found the take on the "Light Shadow" fascinating, and I'd love to hear more about that. The light shadow are those positive qualities that we hide or suppress - like love or ambition. Thanks for the review and keep up the good work.

שָׁלוֹם

From Brazil/Rio de Janeiro ...

Thanks indeed,

For this great review for "The Shadow Effect" ...
It was it delightful to read and to realize the "insights" chained to the book's concept ...

Soon, my new brazilian/yiddish novel will be out and the bottom line is about the shadows ...

Paulo Coelho, a brazilian writer ...

Told to me, a long time ago ...

That the shadow is like the "soul's mirror" ...

And i never forget this ...

Shalom !

Ugh, sorry it felt like homework. I'm glad it fits with your beliefs, though I see how some practical examples/exercises would be beneficial. Thanks for being on this tour!

Craig,
I haven't read A Course in Miracles yet... although been working on Disappearance of the Universe for a while. But it's on my short list! I enjoy the idea that we can bring sin or error into the light and corrected by love.

I see a connection here to A Course in Miracles, Chapter 19.III, which I was just reading. It shows the difference between "sin" (which is not real) and "error." The Ego sees Sin as something to punish. By contrast, error can be brought to light and corrected with love.

By seeing and accepting our dark sides, we can bring them to the light to be healed.

Caroline,
Thanks for stopping by. I really relate with what you said about Part I being "technical" in your review. That's the same term I was thinking.
